About the artist

Abigail McCallum (b. 1990) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice centers on oil painting. Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, she developed an early passion for music and classical ballet, training at the Ayako School of Ballet in California and the Kirov Academy in Washington, D.C. After years of performing, she left dance to pursue academic studies. McCallum attended Gonzaga University in Spokane Washington, where she studied mathematics, philosophy and art. Encouraged by painter Robert Gilmore at the Jundt Art Museum, she immersed herself in oil painting and drawing, spending countless nights working in a small studio at the museum. After graduating, McCallum returned to San Francisco, where she established her first studio and fully committed herself to painting. She now lives and works in Los Angeles, dividing her time between her home studio and a studio in Inglewood, often painting alongside her son and two whippets.
